Hello, and welcome to The Selma American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 12. Our intent is to keep this page as informative as we are able and welcome questions.
Please e-mail our webmaster who will forward questions to THE right person whether they be for Our President, Secretary, Membership Chairman, Girls State Chairman, or any other.
Our Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at The Selma Library, 2200 Selma Street, Selma, CA 93662 Phone: (559) 896-3393 Meetings start at 2:00pm and normally run approximately an hour and followed by a short social time with light deserts and beverages.
.
By the numbers we are considered a fairly small unit. However, we are currently experiencing new growth and we have been blessed with some members who have made a large impression here in the San Joaquin Valley.
Perhaps one of the more well known names is that of Fresno County Sherrif Margaret Mims who keeps her membership active here...perhaps primarily because of her mother long-time member Shirley Davis. However, we are quite certain she is fond of us all.
Who could not be fond of our small but oh so strong Bertha Roam who has "held down the fort" as President for many years. Although Bertha is rapidly approaching the 90th anniversary of her birth she seems content (and well able) to help us newcomers learn what we need to learn before stepping down.
Josie (Mrs. Robert) Melgard rose to the rank of National American Legion Auxiliary President 1985-1986. While searching archived info we found this great picture of Josie that we hope she doesn't mind us sharing.
Though her health is "failing" we believe she looks every bit as good in the picture with our Top Six Ladies as she did in the one above.
Another rather famous lady from our "small" unit is former Reedley Mayor, Laverne Youngberg.
Recently our Commander Cheryl Stewart determined to become active in this unit as an Auxiliary member as the first dual member. Commander Stewart's good friend and then 14th District Auxiliary President Barbara Davis also decided it made much more sense for her to drive to Selma from Fowler rather than to Clovis so she transfered her membership. Welcome Barbara we appreciate you very much.
